Abstract

The aim of this work was to investigate the influence of the machining tool 's feed parameter on the corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steels. The AISI 304 and AISI 316 steels were machined using two different feed. Subsequently, the turned surfaces were subjected to roughness analysis and linear polarization corrosion testing. It was concluded that the advance parameter is directly proportional to roughness and that the more irregular surfaces, due to the greater area of metal/environment interface, present higher corrosion rates than those with lower roughness values.
