In this work, the most relevant content of Law 7/2023, of March 28, on the protection of the rights and welfare of animals, which will come into force on September 29, 2023, is studied. Subsequently, three deficiencies detected in the wording and that we understand should be considered for a future reform of the norm: the inclusion of hunting dogs, a new configuration of the sanctioning procedure and the adoption of specific measures that allow effective coordination between the General Administration of the State, the Autonomous Communities, and local entities, in accordance with the nature of basic legislation that Law 7/2023 has.
