This article tries to explain the evolution of memory policies in democratic Spain. A process that has marked its constant politicization, preventing its continuity and normalization. The possibility of establishing a consensus for them to become a matter of State has vanished. Far from that, memory still seems to be something partisan that supplants history. Despite these particularities, this is not an exclusively Spanish phenomenon. Confrontation and opposition to memory policies has been consolidated worldwide, especially in the format of polarization, clearly affecting history and the vision of the past.
