Francis's entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and his Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest, the neediest, the discarded, and the marginalized. Jorge Mario Bergoglio, an Argentine Jesuit, was chosen to undertake a profound renewal of the Catholic Church, bringing it up to date and undertaking long-overdue reforms. This represented a choice for dialogue, already enshrined by the Second Vatican Council. At times impulsive and energetic, he has certainly swept through social life like a whirlwind, with unprecedented criticism of the current capitalist system, and in internal reforms, with mixed results. Along the way, he has sparked fierce clashes in religious thought and met with considerable resistance from the Roman Curia. The new election will be decisive for the future of the Church and society.
