In Ecuador, public and private higher education institutions (HEI) are strategic allies for the State to achieve the objectives of the National Development Plan and guarantee the fundamental rights of citizens, essential conditions to achieve the desired Sumak Kawsay (CORTEZ, 2011:1). On the other hand, Technological Institutes, Universities and Polytechnic Schools, have the purpose of academic and professional training with a scientific and humanistic vision as an educational model that prioritizes research, technology and innovation in order to build solutions to the problems and needs of social environments and contexts. The objective of the study is to carry out a critical investigation that offers us some reflections on the type of research that is being developed in the IES to determine its impact on the Ecuadorian society. The unflattering results should help us to detect training needs, educational protocol, teaching quality and impact of teaching quality in Ecuadorian society to consider the level of higher education in order to provide solutions to improve the quality of life in Ecuador.
