Abstract

The death of royal figures was another of the propaganda elements used by institutions linked to the Crown. Since the Middle Ages, the news reached the city of Oviedo accompanied by instructions about mourning and obsequies, which were organized in collaboration with the cathedral chapter. From the death of Felipe III, in 1621, its submission to the General Meeting is confirmed.

The elements analyzed between the 16th and 20th centuries are the bringers of the news, the information contained in the communication, the funeral functions, the instructions for mourning,

Also the protocol conflicts between the participants in the ceremonies, the exaltation of the deceased and the linkage of the Crown with values of trascendence and spirituality.
