Abstract

This work presents a study on the influence of profile modifications in the load sharing and the transmission error functions, for involute spur gears. A calculation method for the meshing stiffness for tooth pairs with modified profile has been developed which is valid for any amount, length and shape of modification –including of course the case of no modification– and for contact both inside and outside the pressure line. The curves of the load sharing and the delay angle have been obtained from the variation of the meshing stiffness along the path of contact. For both curves, simple approximate equations are presented which enable to solve the inverse problem, i.e., the equation of the required profile modification for predefined functions of load sharing or transmission error.
