Pluralism, concentration and freedom of the media in the European Union

Firstly, this article reviews the largest and most important Spanish and European communication groups. In addition, it analyzes how they have acted and the regulation respecting expression and information freedom, as well as the media pluralism, which is at the same time a fundamental European right. To continue, going in depth and realizing how important are these pluralism and information freedom as key elements in every democratic system, the article focus on risks and possible problems for citizens and our democratic systems that are contented in the current regulations. To conclude, it sets out some future suggestions to improve and achieve a new regulation and public behaviors to guarantee a broader pluralism and citizen’s rights that can be threatened by keeping the present tendency and media concentration in European and Spanish field.Downloads
