About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Historia del Presente (HDP) is a scientific journal focused on contemporary times closest to the present, addressing all aspects of Spanish and international history, paying special attention to political, social, and cultural processes.
Historia del Presente aims to serve the scientific community. It therefore seeks to foster open debate, provide space for new lines of research, and become a forum for theoretical reflection that fosters dialogue. Through its contributions, it aims to answer the various questions that arise and concern us today, helping to enrich historical awareness.
Starting in May 2024, Historia del Presente will be published in a digital version and open access, in Madrid, by the Association of Historians of the Present and the UNED (National University of Madrid).
Peer Review Process
Manuscripts will undergo a preliminary review by the Editorial Board to verify their compliance with the requirements of the editorial standards, their scientific content, and their appropriateness with the journal's editorial guidelines and objectives. If an article does not adhere to the journal's general guidelines, it will be returned to the author without further evaluation.
After this evaluation, all articles will undergo an external peer review process using a double-blind system, involving at least two reviewers from outside the journal, with a third being called in if necessary. Final publication requires a positive evaluation from at least two reviewers. If only one reviewer gives a negative opinion, the article may be rejected. A third opinion will be required only if the Editorial Board deems the rejection of the article insufficiently justified. Reviewers may make suggestions for revision and improvements, if appropriate, with a view to preparing a new version of the manuscript.
The Editorial Board will make the final decision, taking into account external reports, on the publication or rejection of each article.
The editorial team will communicate the decision to the author of the text; appeals are not possible. Unless otherwise indicated, the author may resubmit the text from time to time, initiating a new evaluation process.
Publication Frequency: Semiannual (June and December)
