El PSOE y la elección de la moderación. Del XXVII Congreso de 1976 a las elecciones sindicales de 1978

The aim of the article is put on the focus the so called PSOE’s turn towards social democracy in the years 1977 and 1978. The socialist’s moderation relied on two parallel but different dynamics.
On the one hand, there was the tentative of the PSOE to difference itself from the others political forces that were more connected to the franquism. On the other hand, there was the intention to propose the PSOE as the promoter of the resurrection of Spanish economy, considering this the previous condition in order to join the European common market. The support granted by the European socialism to the PSOE allowed to connect inside a coherent political offer both questions at once. The axes of this offer were the smoothing of the ideological radicalism, the definition of an electoral moderate and social democratic program, and the impulse to the UGT to accept a model of responsible and alternative unionism to the one held by the CCOO. Throughout a connection with the interests and the needs of the middle classes and without losing the relation with the working class, the PSOE could realize a national-popular political project focused on the hegemonic conquest of the left’s political space and, at the same time, the promotion of a national resurrection under the key-words of progress, change and modernization.
