Poder académico en la reconstrucción de la Medicina universitaria de posguerra

Abstract

When the Spanish Civil War ended, the panorama of Spanish Science in general, and of Medicine in particular, was devastating. Purge and exile of most relevant Professors had caused many chairs to be vacant at Spanish University. New academic authorities wished to take advantage of that historical context to lay the foundation of a new scientific system, and of a new understanding of scientific practice in Spain. Exams for university Professor positions were the key element to ensure loyalty to the principles that would guide the reconstruction of higher education in the forties. A group of Professors in Medicine, faithful to the principles of Franco’s dictatorship, actively helped the Ministerio de Educación Nacional complete the process successfully.
