Abstract

This paper addresses the relationship between the dimensional characteristics error of form (roundness) and surface roughness in the proper functioning of mechanical components that were manufactured by varying the speed of cutting feed during machining to ± 30% compared to standard parameters in production. These components were analyzed after manufacture and the results were used in a statistical matrix, in which we used the methodology of factorial experiments (design of experiments - DOE), which was verified by the interaction between these characteristics and their responses in the experiments. The chosen parameters were evaluated at two levels (minimum and maximum) in a factorial 22. The rotation speeds used in the experiment varied according to their commercial use. The results show that the interaction proves the dynamic interaction between the selected variables. Specifically in this work, experiments were performed on a crankshaft which is a major component of an internal combustion engine. This component works in an engine of 1365 cc bi-fuel, known commercially by 1.4 flex. The crankshaft in its final form has a mass of about 9.8 kg and a length of 392.3 ± 0.05 mm. After the machining process, the component must undergo a second process which is the hardening surface, giving it greater hardness and mechanical strength. A form results experimentally, we applied a linear arrangement (modeling), thus determining the coefficients used to relate the answers on the input variables. Knowing the coefficients of the arrangements between the factors, it was found and what factors had higher levels which interact with the least possible waste.
