Abstract

The optimal choice of energy-conversion technologies becomes a complex decision problem which has to consider the fluctuating energy demand categorized by electric power, space heating and cooling, and hot water supply, together with tariff of fuels and electricity. The optimal planning of trigeneration systems is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming problem. As a result, both the configuration of the plant and the operational policy are optimally determined.
