Abstract

This work presents a comprehensive theoretical and experimental investigation of the external inversion ofthin-walled tubes using a die with the purpose ofunderstanding the influence of interface friction on the plastic deformation mechanisms and of the strain path and material damage on the occurrence of ductile fracture. Fundamental research was undertaken by using virtual prototyping modelling techniques based on the finite element method. The experimental work was performed on aluminium Al6060 (annealed and natural aged) industrial tubes.
