Abstract

The geometry of the weld pool was studied in order to acquire process knowledge and reinforce the effectiveness of infrared thermography method to evaluate the temperature distributions. Several tests were carried out and monitored by an infrared camera. On the other hand, infrared thermography has evolved as a noninvasive inspection technique for the surface temperature measurement of several types of materials. Therefore, the present work pursues to evaluate infrared thermography as a potential tool for heat treatment and welding studies, and better understand the metallurgical processes within the weld pool during the temperature evolutions.
