En busca de un lugar en Europa: Portugal, España y la integración europea en los años ochenta

Con respecto a la integración europea, Portugal y España dedicaron la primera parte de la década de los años ochenta a negociar su adhesión a la Comunidad Económica Europea, de forma individual pero simultánea, y la segunda a integrarse en ella durante el período de transición. Por parte de la CCE, y desde una perspectiva política, su adhesión formaba parte de una estrategia de consolidación democrática en la península ibérica, en un contexto más amplio de la Guerra Fría. Aprovechando los avances en la historiografía y en la literatura existente, este artículo examina la primera mitad de dicha década con la intención de valorar la ampliación ibérica tanto desde la perspectiva de la consolidación democrática como de la búsqueda de un lugar institucional en Europa, correspondiente con una nueva vocación europea y con un nuevo proyecto que sumara para ambos países.
