Fantasmas coloniales. La descolonización británica y la ampliación ibérica de la Comunidad Económica Europea, 1981-1986

Este texto estudia la posición política del Reino Unido ante la ampliación ibérica de la CEE, presentando especial atención al impacto que dos de sus colonias–Gibraltar y Hong Kong– tuvieron durante el proceso negociador. Con el apoyo de fuentes primarias y secundarias, sostengo que el futuro de estas colonias determinó el respaldo de Thatcher a esa ampliación. Mientras el gobierno británico condicionó la entrada de España en la CEE a la mejora de la comunicación fronteriza con Gibraltar, apoyó sin fisuras la incorporación de Portugal, a pesar de que esta generó un agravio comparativo entre la colonia portuguesa de Macao y la británica de Hong Kong.
