Abstract

Fracture toughness (CTODm), at room temperature, in welded joints of the new generation of 21/4Cr-1Mo steel was analyzed. "Step Cooling" with or without stress associated was the mean to simulate temper embrittlement at coarse grain and fine grain heat affected zone (HAZ) of this steel. Fracture micro mechanism after "Step Coo- ling" was coalescence of micro voids. HAZ of 21/4Cr-1Mo steel showed good fracture toughness behavior at room temperature, and low susceptibility to temper embrittlement, due to impurities control during steel produc-

tion.
