Abstract

The last Spanish governments have driven divergent guiding principles in foreign policy. Both alternatives were extremely ideological. They have broken the political consensus, which had dominated foreign policy since the beginning of the democratic regimen. None of these options satisfies the country’s requirements in the present-day circumstances. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to redefine the foreign policy, in order to retrieve it as a State policy instead of being associated with a political party.
