by Davida Race (2019-10-08)

It is likely that the kitchen is the area with the highest traffic in your living space. Therefore, it is also likely that some of the more notorious messes occur in the kitchen. Below are some quick and easy tips on cleaning house with toddler when you hate doing it - birthways.org, and methods for dealing with some of the commonly messy areas of the kitchen, using materials found at home.

Microwave

The acid found in white vinegar or lemon juice can soften even the toughest deposits in the microwave, rendering them easy to wipe away. Steaming white vinegar or lemon juice in the microwave lets some of the acidic particles become airborne.

Oven

Let a tub of ammonia stand in the top rack, and a tub of boiling water stand in the bottom rack overnight. Most residue deposits can be wiped away the following morning.

Baking Sheets and Dishes

Letting a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda stand for 20 minutes on dirty baking sheets and dishes will eliminate most food residue caked onto them. Be sure to wipe away and rinse any dirty areas following the process.

Coffeemaker

Running the coffee maker system with a solution of water and white vinegar, then twice more with only water should make short work of most coffee stains. Scrubbing the inside with a rag should eliminate most stains.

Tile Grout

A mixture of hydrogen peroxide and Borax, applied generously with a toothbrush, can clean grouted areas such as floors and backsplashes. Be sure to rinse the mixture off of the surface afterward.

Stainless Steel Appliances

Baking soda and a finely woven cloth (perhaps even a lens cleaning cloth) can make short work of fingerprints built up on stainless steel. Rinse the baking soda off of the appliance afterward.

Cast-Iron Pots and Pans

Soaking cast-iron materials in warm water, then scrubbing away residue with chainmail or steel wool scrubbers will eliminate any residue caked onto the surface.
